Speaker Bios

Dr. Robert E. Larson, Managing Director, Woodside Fund; President, UCGEC

Robert Larson is Co-founder and Managing Director of the Woodside Fund. Dr. Larson has enjoyed a challenging and fruitful career in the exceptionally broad exposure to the most recent developments in these technologies. Dr. Larson was co-founder, President, and CEO of Systems Control. In addition, he was President of the international Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). Dr. Larson has worked for IBM, Hughes Aircraft, and SRI International. He was also a Consulting Professor at Stanford University in the Engineering-Economic Systems Department for over 20 years. He received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from Stanford University, and a B.S. degree from MIT, all in Electrical Engineering. He has written six textbooks and 140 technical papers on software and computer systems.       

 


 

Junchang Chen, Chairman, Estable Power Technology

Mr. Junchang Chen is the founder and Chairman of Estable Power Technology Co. Ltd (Nanjing), with 25 years of experiences in the utilities industry, particularly grid power systems automation and engineering. After graduating from Nanjing University in 1989 with a Master’s degree in Hydropower Engineering and Applications, Mr. Chen worked as a Project Manager for the Center for Electric Power Automations Research, Nanjing. He founded Estable in 1997, serving as Chairman since and CEO until 2002. Mr. Chen has completed several training programs in finance, strategic and business management at the Excellerated Business School for Entrepreneurs (USA), and the HSBC School of Business, Peking University. In addition, he holds an EMBA degree from Nanjing University (2012). Mr. Chen was recognized by the Nanjing municipal government as a Fellow of the prestigious “321 Talents Program”.

 

 

 

Charles Mee, Senior Utilities Engineer, Specialist, Office of Ratepayer Advocates, California Public Utilities Commission

Charles has 20 years of experience in the electric power industry both in the U.S. and in China. In the past 20 years, he worked in the area of power system and equipment testing and research, transmission facility operation and maintenance, transmission and distribution planning, power project development, renewable energy and smart grid facilitation, ratepayer engagement, electricity tariff development, power market design, regional transmission grid reliability coordination, inter-agency collaboration within the State of California government, and regulatory coordination between California and federal level authorities. He graduated with a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University in China and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of California, USA. 

 

 

Jesse Gossett, Senior Project Manager, Electric Generation Interconnection, Pacific Gas & Electric Company.

Jesse Gossett works on the Electric Generation Interconnection (EGI) team at Pacific Gas & Electric. Jesse is coordinating EGI’s work to integrate energy storage into the interconnection process and also manages PG&E’s transmission interconnection portfolio. Projects in the transmission portfolio range in size between 20MW and 500MW+ and include various generation technologies. Energy storage is becoming a large part of EGI’s work, due to the growing energy storage market in California. Prior to PG&E, Jesse spent 4 years starting and running a renewable energy development firm in Boston, a year helping launch an energy storage start-up in the Valley, and another year consulting for a Fortune 200 firm on an innovative community engagement plan for a development in Mongolia. Jesse is a proud Jumbo, and continues to mentor young entrepreneurs and companies whenever he can find the time.

 

 

Min Li, CTO, Estable Power Technology

Mr. Min Li has been with Estable Power Technology Co. Ltd (Nanjing) for 4 years, first serving as Director of Engineering (2010-2011), and then Chief Technology Officer (since 2011). He was also a technology consultant for the company from 2006 to 2010. Prior to joining Estable, Mr. Li worked as a researcher at University of California, Santa Cruz, from 2008 to 2010. He also held engineering positions at Microsoft Research Asia (2007) and Intel Asia-Pacific Research & Development Ltd. (2006). Mr. Li obtained his B.S. degree in Software Engineering (2004), and M.S. degree in Computer Engineering (2006), both from Nanjing University.

 

 

 

Xiaofeng Zhang, Regional Marketing Director, Howard Industries Inc.; Vice President, UCGEC

Xiaofeng is a Regional Marketing Director, Howard Industries Inc. She has over 25 years of experience in the areas of Smart Grid, Distribution Automation, Demand Response, Electricity Market and Renewable Energy. She has worked in various capacities with global leading companies, such as Director of Marketing and Admin, JA Solar USA; Sr. Project Manager at Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), Product Manager and China Marketing Manager at ABB Inc., Senior Engineer at Siemens and at Systems Control. Previously she worked with the Chinese Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI) in Beijing, where her application software won a National Scientific Technology Award. She has published widely and recently served as a panelist at several conferences, such as she was Smart Grid panelist & panel moderator for UCGEC 2010 conference in Suzhou and 2013 conference in Tianjin, and a panelist on “Market-Based Demand Response” at IEEE 2010 General Meeting. She holds a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering and was a PhD Candidate at the Chinese Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI).

Ms. Zhang is a Senior Member of IEEE. She is Vice President of the US-China Green Energy Council (UCGEC) and is co-chair on Smart Grid steering committee. She is very active in San Francisco Bay Area communities and has served various non-profit organizations, including Board Chairwoman and President (2006 to 2008) of Silicon Valley Women (SVWA). In 2007, she led SVWA and completed the fundraising to build a Silicon Valley Women ShinShin Primary School in the Sichuan, China.

Zhenfeng Zhang, CEO, Estable Power Technology

Ms. Zhenfeng Zhang has been the CEO of Estable Power Technology Co. Ltd (Nanjing) since 2002. She has 20 years of experiences in sales and management in the utilities industry, particularly grid power systems. After graduating from Nanjing University in 1989, Ms. Zhang worked for the Nanjing Environmental Protection Agency and Center for Electric Power Automations Research, Nanjing, as a sales manager and marketing executive, respectively. She became the CEO of Estable in 2002, and has been instrumental in leading the company’s development in recent years. Ms. Zhang has completed several training programs in finance, strategic and business management at the Excellerated Business School for Entrepreneurs (USA), and the HSBC School of Business, Peking University. In 2012 she obtained her EMBA degree from Nanjing University. Ms. Zhang has also been a community leader in various types of social activities, serving as Vice Chairwoman, Nanjing Yu-Hua Business Coalition; Executive Director, Nanjing Industries and Business Association; and Vice President for the United Association for EMBA Alumni of Nanjing University.
